Elkhorn City Night Market
July 21, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The trend-setting Elkhorn City Night Market is set to return to the “gateway to the Breaks” on Saturday, July 21st from 6-10 pm. After numerous successful markets in the past, popular demand prompted organizers to schedule a new market date, the first one for 2018.
The Elkhorn City Night Market has been known for placing a special focus on small businesses and artists, with a primary goal of providing a pop-up venue for local people to share and sell their goods. From delicious BBQ, sno-cone trucks, stage performers, and a variety of wares, prior market dates have provided a big boost to many vendors. In the past, some have even completely sold out of product.
Previous Elkhorn City Night Markets have seen visitor numbers upwards of 1,500. Emily Nelson of Pike County Extension Fine Arts, a primary sponsor of the event, says they hope to reach that volume again. “When we held our first night market back in 2016 we had no idea what the outcome would be. We were shocked to see the streets fill like they did, and we hope to recreate that magic again for the July 21st market.”
The market plans to include a wide range of merchants. In the past, vendors have offered face painting, fresh baked goods, handmade crafts, paintings and prints, unique jewelry, clothing, pottery, Kentucky-themed t-shirts, repurposed furniture, woodwork, on-site custom embroidery and vinyl work, pet supplies and clothing, natural bath and body products, and much more. Organizers expect many of these same vendors to return in addition to new ones.
The night will include more than shopping, however. A full evening of music and performances will also entertain the crowd. Talented, established local vocalists will take the stage throughout the evening and a DJ will be on the scene to spin hits in between performers. Market-goers can expect powerhouse performances by Sarah Norman, Ashley-Fuller Ratliff, Summer Rose Hughes, the Appalachian Symphony string band, and more.
What’s more? The Elkhorn City Night Market serves as a fundraiser for Artists Collaborative Theatre, the award-winning community theatre in Elkhorn City. All booth fees go directly to the non-profit arts organization to help cover the cost of their totally free theatre classes for K-12 students.
Those interested in becoming a vendor still have time to submit an application, which can be downloaded online at www.ACT4.org/NightMarket. Applications may also be picked up in person at the Pike County Extension Office located at 148 Trivette Drive in Pikeville, KY. Fees for local businesses, artists, and other non-food vendors are $25 for one 10×10 space. The fee for food vendors, including food trucks, is $50. Applications are due with payment by Monday, July 16th—late applications will require a $5 late fee.
Those interested in performing may contact Emily Nelson at the Pike County Extension Office by email at email@example.com or by phone at (606) 432-2534. They may also reach out on Facebook at either the Artists Collaborative Theatre, Inc. or the UK Extension – Pike County Fine Arts pages.
