The Fifth Annual Appalachian Seed Swap is coming to Pikeville, Kentucky, Saturday, April 1, 2017. This event will be held at Pike Central High School, 100 Winners Circle Drive, Pikeville, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Along with the seed swap there will be classes, demonstrations, gardening tips, Appalachian cooking culture displays and much more! Follow the event on Facebook for all the updates on the event. Last year’s event saw over 700 gardeners, representing 13 states, sharing thousands of heirloom seeds and years of knowledge.

The Appalachian Seed Swap is not difficult to find at all, however, Google directions can sometimes lead people into downtown Pikeville. This event is located at the Pike Central High School, right off of 119 in the Pikeville area. If you are using a GPS unit, you may want to enter: 1901 US Highway 119 N, Pikeville, Kentucky.

“We are very excited to announce our line-up of special guests this year. In addition to Bill Best who in addition to seeds and plants will be signing his latest book, Ben Cohen will be speaking on seed saving, Cathy Rehmeyer on Four Season Gardening, Joel McKinney on hyrdoponic production, and Leslie Workman on home canning. Kentucky State University will have their mobile unit and will have a limited number of paw-paw seeds. Kentucky Proud Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Pike County Soil Conservation District, and NRCS (Natural Resources and Conservation Services) are our special guests as well. Many vendors, local and from around the nation, will be on hand Lunch available on site. Pikeville Farmer’s Market will be featuring freshly ground cornmeal with a vintage mill on site as well as value added products. Cutting of the cushaw is promptly at 9 AM. Be there!”
